Flexographic printing is a type of rotary
printing characterized by high speed and consistent output
quality. The web (material to be printed on) is fed through
the press and aligned by metal cylinders. Other cylinders
on the same press are equipped to apply ink onto the web with
photopolymer plates, which have a raised surface similar to
that of a stamp. But since the cylinders are constantly turning,
they are able to repeatedly apply ink much faster than the
up and down motion of a stamp (the motion used by offset and
screenprinters). On the same press, the web can be die cut,
perforated, laminated, and sheeted — all in one pass.
Why flexographic?
Because it’s fast, affordable, and
consistent.
