Providing Electronic Art Files:
Digital art flies may be supplied on CDs or emailed to prepress@acrolabels.com. Compressing files into .zip or stuffit (.sit) archives is recommended for emailed files.
Always include pdfs as a preview of all label art to be printed. This will avoid errors and will speed reviewing process.
Our graphics department is a Macintosh based operating system. The following file formats are accepted for output:
- High Res. Acrobat Portable Document Format (.pdf)
- Encapsulated PostScript (*.eps) - Recommended
- Adobe Photoshop Image (*.psd)
- Adobe Illustrator Artwork (*.ai)
- Adobe Indesign (*.Indd)
- Quark Xpress v6.5 (.qxd)
* Adobe Creative Suite version CS3 or older versions (CS4 users please save files back to CS3).
We do not recommend creating files in Microsoft Word, Office, Publisher, Power Point.
Color Setup:
Be sure that all color scanned images are in CMYK mode. Specify PMS (Pantone Matching System) for all spot colors used. If you're trying to match something specific, please provide sample showing colors to be matched. Make sure that all separate files or links used have the exact color names as the final document. if not, they will be treated as separate colors. Remove all unused colors from the final document.
Fonts & Attachments:
Converting all type to paths or outlines is recommended. If type is not outlined, all fonts must be included with art files.
Include all placed or linked attachments separately. These are usually Photoshop images that are imported into your working document. (embedding is not recommended).
Images:
4/color process images (in Photoshop) must be high resolution. A minimum of 300 ppi for continuous tone images. We do not recommend scaling images larger than 20%. Do not use web images; although the images may look good, the resolution will be too low to print well. Link images to the document and supply them separately. This way if we need to correct the file for any reason we can do so. Flat one color art (bitmap images) must be at least 600 ppi but 1200 ppi is recommended.
Specific Tolerances:
- Minimum line thickness: 3 pt rules for positive; 4 pt rules for reverse.
- Minimum size type: 3 point positive type; 4 point sans serif type for reverse copy.
- We will set all traps.
- Bleeds: 1/8"

Barcodes:
All barcodes should be supplied with bar width reduction for flexographic printing (.002 inch). We cannot guarantee bar codes smaller than 80% will scan properly on final printed labels. It is not recommended that barcodes be supplied as reflective art since plates produced from reflective art will not meet the requirements for bar code standards.
